Independence Day

On Wednesday Kay drove us over to Des Moines where we have spent the last couple of days with Kay and Rich.

We have had a guided tour of the court house, where Kay works as an Attorney, the Capitol building complete with its State Senate house and House of Representatives, we have eaten Mexican food, Chinese Food, had a breakfast of pancakes and an Iowan dinner.

We have celebrated Independence Day at a Yankee Doodle Pops concert on Capitol Hill, complete with 1812 overture with canon, and a fireworks display.

We have spent Independence Day itself exploring the living history museum recreating Iowa farm life through the centuries, finishing with an 1875 Baseball game.

And to round the day off we visited the Berwick Church where Rich is Minister.

Tomorrow we head off for Spencer and an evening service.

We have a Sunday morning service at Spencer and then we head off for Omaha, the airport and New York.

There we have arranged to meet up with Julie, one of our Ministers here, who is going to take us to the Riverside church where she works and to the Plymouth Congregational Church in Brooklyn where she belongs.  The former has played a significant part in the Civil Rights movement and the latter in the anti-slavery movement.

Much to look forward to ... but the possibility of not much opportunity to go online.

Some photos to sample our couple days here.
